In one line. 80x scoped and designed a white-glove Affinity-to-Attio migration for a climate-focused venture firm covering ~110k records, including a custom commitment object and a pass-reason consolidation from 52 down to ~20.

Client & context

The client is a climate-focused venture firm running its dealflow on Affinity and moving to Attio. The engagement was run white-glove rather than as a lift-and-shift, with a phased plan: one week for the migration itself and two weeks for cleanup and customization.

The problem

The firm's needs went beyond a straight data move. Discovery mapped the compliance requirements the investment team runs on, SEC email permissioning, file-management access, and protected recipients, alongside multi-object note tagging (attaching a single note to a contact, company and deal at once) for investment-team workflows. Getting these right up front mattered more than moving fast.

What we scoped and built

  • An Affinity → Attio migration of ~110k records.
  • A custom 'Commitment' object to convert Affinity opportunities and support future-LP tracking.
  • Pass-reason consolidation from 52 down to ~20, driven off a client-provided mapping sheet.
  • Historical notes migration duplicated across both people and organizations, with go-forward notes taken at the org level.
  • A one-week intensive consulting engagement with proactive pipeline review, a one-hour team transition meeting, and a second week of Slack support.

How we did it

The NDA was executed and contract deliverables were finalized, with a beta group of 5 users and a full team rollout scheduled a week later. Rather than push a migration ahead of the investment team's compliance requirements, we designed the data model and the email- and file-permissioning approach around them first, so the migration would land cleanly the first time. The custom commitment object and the pass-reason mapping were both built off the client's own reference sheet.

Outcome

Scope, custom-object design, pass-reason consolidation (52 → ~20) and the phased rollout plan are all defined, with compliance requirements mapped directly into the migration design. The engagement is ongoing.

Takeaway: A ~110k-record white-glove migration was fully scoped and designed, custom commitment object, 52 → ~20 pass-reason consolidation, and a compliance-aware rollout plan.
