Methodology

Every list on this site is editorial. 80x chooses what to include, writes every description, and takes no payment for placement. This page is the policy of record for how listings are chosen, how they are ordered, and how this site makes money.

How entries are chosen

The Fund Stack lists software and data tools that venture funds run on. An entry gets in when three things are true:

  • The tool is real and maintained. Its website is checked the day the entry is written, and a dead link means the entry comes out.
  • It does a job in a fund workflow: dealflow, sourcing, market data, enrichment, portfolio monitoring, cap table, fund administration, or AI and automation.
  • We can describe it defensibly. Each description says what the tool is and what a fund uses it for, in plain language. We do not publish pricing, user counts, or performance claims unless we verified them on the vendor's own site the same day.

Some listed tools are ones 80x builds on in client work, and we say so where it is relevant. Vendors cannot buy their way in, and being a client of a vendor, or having one as a client, does not change what we write.

You can suggest a tool through the contact page. Inclusion stays editorial either way.

How lists are ordered

Ordering is editorial. Nothing about position on a page is sold, and "Related tools" sections list other entries in the same category, not endorsements. If we ever publish a ranked list, the ranking criteria will be written on the page that carries it.

How this site makes money

80x is a studio. This site exists to demonstrate the work and win engagements, and it sells one product of our own, Backchannel. That is the entire business model of the site.

The directory takes no money: there is no paid placement, there are no affiliate links, and outbound links carry no tracking parameters. If a commercial arrangement ever touches a listing, three things happen in the same release: the placement gets a visible label, the link gets rel="sponsored" markup, and this page describes the arrangement.

Tracking

This site loads no third-party marketing or advertising scripts and no visitor-identification services. When you submit a form, we record which page you submitted it from so we know what worked. That is the extent of the attribution.
