In one line. 80x migrated a venture firm to Attio, the team was already working in it, including the mobile app, then scoped a one-way Airtable-to-Attio sync that keeps Airtable as the reporting source of truth while pushing grades, sectors and taglines into Attio.

Client & context

The client is a venture firm. By the time of this session the Attio migration was done: all data was across, the team was learning the system, and one partner had used the Attio mobile app while on vacation and liked it. Airtable stays in place as the system of record for reporting and financials, LP reporting, portfolio-company grading and sector tracking.

The problem

The fund wanted the useful parts of its Airtable data visible in Attio without double entry, while keeping reporting on Airtable. The specific fields to bring across: the internal portfolio grade, sector classifications, company taglines, and a link back to the Airtable record.

What we built

  • The completed Attio migration (data live, team trained).
  • A one-way Airtable-to-Attio sync for grades, sector classifications, taglines and record links.
  • Data-model and process documentation, including a process map that draws a clear line between the two systems' responsibilities.

How we did it

We chose Pipedream over Zapier or Make, more economical and reliable for this kind of workflow, at a nominal monthly fee, and started with a simple one-way push from Airtable rather than a two-way sync. The grading system it feeds is central to how the fund operates: grades are updated on investor news such as runway or founder changes, reviewed quarterly, and drive valuation treatment, follow-on decisions, and how much of the investor network a founder gets access to. Keeping that in Airtable while surfacing it in Attio meant the CRM stayed useful without becoming a second source of truth.

Outcome

All data was migrated and the team was actively using Attio, including the mobile app. The one-way Pipedream sync was scoped as the next phase, surfacing Airtable's grades, sectors and taglines in Attio without moving the source of truth.

Takeaway: Attio migration delivered and in daily use, with a Pipedream one-way sync scoped to surface Airtable's grades, sectors and taglines in Attio without moving the source of truth.
